For this project, I was inspired by the Ghibli universe and the 2D concept by artist Veikka Somerma https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Gvknkz to create (see the Public Mail Box) a stylized prop with soft shapes and a warm, inviting atmosphere.
I started by studying stylized workflows, especially for materials like wood. Two tutorials were particularly helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG1DQttYT54 for stylized wood and this one for cartoon-style props (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VlLQmdx_Ok)
Technically, I followed a standard workflow: low poly base, high poly sculpt in ZBrush, then retopology to optimize the mesh while keeping key details.
The biggest challenge was capturing the concept’s mood. I tested different lighting setups and HDRIs to achieve a soft, almost hand-painted look in the spirit of Ghibli visuals.
